Acting as the capital of the state of Utah, Salt Lake City is home to almost 182,000 people, and was home to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. When Mormons found Salt Lake City in 1847, they were in search of a place where they could practice their religion free of prosecution and mobs. When they arrived in what is now known as Salt Lake City, their leader, Brigham Young, stated, "this is the place", believing that he saw this vast empty valley in a 'vision'.
